I picked up some painted Perry Cuirassier off of ebay last month.
Although not in bad shape, they were sloppily painted. I chose not to strip them but just tidied up the paint job and gave them a standard.
I opted to give them a Prince Rupert's Lifeguard of Horse standard from Wargames Designs. Was Rupert's lifeguard cuirassier? Probably not, but it gives them some distinction on the games table.
Although there are 8 troopers on 4 bases in Pike And Shotte I would only use 3 bases and they would count as Small.
Good find! The finished result looks super to me.
ReplyDeleteLovely work, nice bit of refurbishing, although there is meant to be only one unit of cuirassiers in the war of three Kingdoms, it's very difficult to definitively prove it, so I'm certain your unit can exist in that debatable realm!

Great work, and you can't tell they have been refurbished. They look like they have always been painted that way.
ReplyDeleteNow you have a Royalist unit to match up against my Parliament Lobsters
ReplyDeleteGreat work - lovely rejuvenation!
ReplyDeleteNice Perry sculpts! I hope to paint mine soon...
ReplyDeleteEbay miniatures are sometimes useful to quickly fill gaps in our armies.
Cheers!
Stuff I've seen on cuirassier suggests that while only the "lobsters" were confirmed as a full cuirassier regiment, there were several that had, at one point or another, at least a few troops, and that occasional troopers might very well have owned and worn the armour. Enough to fudge it with the naysayers, anyways ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for the nice remarks.
ReplyDeleteThose cuirassiers look great. I really like the Perry versions 👍.
ReplyDeleteYou can never have enough cuirassiers. The word 'conjectural' comes in very handy
